On November 8 2018, the equipment of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) kindles an inferno that quickly spreads through the state, driven by strong winds. Embattled bus driver Kevin McKay responds to a call from his dispatcher Ruby to head to Ponderosa elementary school to collect 23 students and their teacher Mary Ludwig and ferry the children to safety.
